About Us Lexus of Englewood, established in 1989 by Donald Toresco, was one of the first Lexus dealerships in the nation. The Toresco family entered into the automobile business in the mid 1940’s. Now under the leadership of the third generation of Torescos and President Carmine DeMaio, Lexus of Englewood continues to join the ranks of the Elite of Lexus, an exclusive honor reserved by Lexus for dealerships that exhibit outstanding client care in both sales and service. Lexus of Englewood is a multi-time winner of this coveted distinction. Our founder, Donald Toresco, is one of the most recognized names in the automotive business. After World War II, Donald’s father, the elder Dominick, recognized that returning veterans would need automobiles, value driven pricing and liberal credit. Dom’s Auto Sales in North Plainfield, New Jersey was an immediate success. In keeping with the tradition of delivering value, Dom’s became one of the very first Toyota franchises in the US. Donald Toresco was instrumental in helping grow his family’s automobile business and in 1964 opened his very own Somerset Motors in North Plainfield. Less than four years later, Mr. Toresco teamed with Chrysler, capitalizing on the success of his dealership, and launched North Plainfield Dodge. Car buyers traveled to New Jersey from New York and Pennsylvania to take advantage of North Plainfield Dodge’s reputation for value priced vehicles and readily available financing. The dealership quickly grew into a major regional Dodge dealership, so in 1975 Mr. Toresco re-branded the store under the name Dodgeland, the largest Chrysler Corporation dealership in the country. Aware of the enormous popularity of auto shows, Mr. Toresco had a vision to give car buyers a similar experience at retail to comparison shop different brands of vehicle and models all in one place. His vision was realized in the early 1980’s when he secured 26 acres of property on Route 22 East in Springfield, New Jersey. It was here the nation’s first “auto mall” would be built….Autoland. When it was first established, Autoland provided free private bus transportation to and from Manhattan as a courtesy for out-of-state shoppers. At Autoland, car buyers can choose between Toyota, Scion, Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep products along with thousands of used cars and trucks in a comfortable environment. A pioneer in the automotive industry, Mr. Toresco was one of the first auto dealers to implement a computerized finance system, enabling bank contracts and paperwork to be electronically stored and printed. He has continued to work with computer software developers, financial institutions and manufacturers to improve the consumer’s car buying experience. Realizing that the health and well-being of his employees has a direct impact on the customer experience, Mr. Toresco was one of the first to implement an extensive employee assistance program, managed by a certified therapist and counselors. Having the sincere belief that Customer Satisfaction is the most important aspect of any transaction, Mr. Toresco’s automobile dealerships have achieved numerous awards and honors from manufacturers, vendors and the local community. His family of the automobile dealerships has been active in a variety of community and charity organizations. And Donald Toresco has personally served as Chairman of the American Diabetes Association – “Dealers for Diabetes” program, the Dodge Open Charity Classic Golf Tournament, Toys for Tots, and Deborah Hospital. Mr. Toresco has long-standing commitments to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, The GP Foundation for Cancer Research, and the Epilepsy Foundation. Locally, Mr. Toresco has been a supporter of D.A.R.E., the Good News Home for Women, a non-profit organization aiding women who have become victims of substance abuse, and The Two Hundred Club of Union County which provides financial assistance to the families of fallen police and firefighters. Lexus of Englewood is a proud member of the Toresco family of dealerships, a pioneering force in the automobile industry.
